Islamic Studies - Islamic Q&A

Question:

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmat Allah wa barakatuhu
Dear learned friend in Islam

My question is two fold. Firstly, I have heard that there is Islamic scholarship which states that the rain is caused by angels in the skys. Is this true? If it is true please provide relevant authority and hadith.   May Allah guide you on the true path.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, and may Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad.

Yes, Allah the Exalted has placed some Angels in charge of the rain, and the arch-Angel in charge of this is Mika'il (Mika'il). At-Tabaraniyy related from the route of Ibn `Abbas, may Allah raise their rank , that he said: "Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, asked Jibril (Gabriel) over which matter have you been placed in charge? Jibril answered; over wind and troops, then the prophet asked, and which matter is Mika'il responsible for? Jibril answered; for plants and rain".

Allah Knows best.
