Islamic Studies - Islamic Q&A

Question:

Asalamu Alaykum,

I am trying to understand the issue of prophet Ayyub. His story, as some say. He had 40 daughters and 30 sons and with test they all died and he was tested with a disease. he left the area with his wife or he was alone with his wife because all his family died? His wife was from Propher Yousaf's family.
but some people say that prophets' are to convey the truth, deen. and do not leave the area? They do not stop preching?  The question is: did he leave the area or not? or was he still with people and teaching them while he was ill?  Do you have his whole story so I can read. I heard he was alone with his wife, his tongue, heart and mind was safe from the illness. then after 18 yrs angel jibril came and asked him to hit the ground with his foot and water came and he had bath and was cured, when his wife came, she couldn't recognise him. but some people say he wasn't that ill that he couldn't teach people. but when Prophet Younis was in Wale for 40 days, he wasn't teaching. it was test for him.

Dua for me.

Answer:

Wa ^Alaykum Assalam,

Bismillah, praise be to Allah the lord of the worlds, and we ask Allah to raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad and his kind Aal and companions.

Konw that the prophets are attributed with inteligence, beauty and bravery; none of them was a coward as some ignorant people claim. It is impossible for them to be inflicted with sickness which repels people away from accepting their call; however, they could be inflicted with sicknesses which do not repel people away from them. Prophet Ayyub (Job) peace be upon him was inflicted with a sickness which lasted eighteen years, in addition to that he lost all his money and all of his children died. Yet, it is not true what some ignorant people say that worms came out of his body and fell off and that he would put them back on his body.

His illness did not affect his da^wa, he was spreading the religion despite his sickness, until he heard a person falsely  say: "Ayoob's sickness is a punishment from Allah". So then Prophet Ayoub made du^a' to be cured, and he was fully cured and he prospered. But know that Prophets go through hardships calamities, but that indicates their high rank. They never give up their duty in delivering the call of Islam.

These absurd tales are narrated by some people about the prophets of Allah ta^ala, yet they never accept to attribute the same to themselves.

One has to believe that all of them are sound in the form they were created, no one of them had an ugly or a scary image, or even had a handicap, or had a scary voice. It is not true what some say that Adam used to look like the apes, Adam had a sound shape, and an upright body. Allah does not send as a prophet one who has a handicap. The Messenger of Allah sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam said:

"مَا بَعَثَ اللهُ نَبيًّا إِلا حَسَنَ الوَجْهِ حَسَنَ الصَّوتِ، وإِنَّ نَبِيَّكُم أَحسَنُهُم وَجْهًا وَأَحْسَنُهُم صَوْتًا"

It means: “Every prophet Allah sent had a nice face and a nice voice. Your prophet has the nicest face and the nicest voice of all of them.” (Related by Imam Ahmad).

This means that all of them were nice looking with a nice voice, the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam praised himself in this hadith that he is the nicest looking and that he has the nicest voice.

We ask Allah to increase our knowledge and keep us and you on the guided path, ameen.

Allah knows best.
